Country School Association of America Annual Conference

June 17, 2019 - June 19, 2019

Several restored Montgomery County schoolhouses will be highlighted during an upcoming national conference sponsored by the Country School Association of America, to be held June 17-19 near Frederick, MD. The Seneca schoolhouse will be a stop during a daylong bus tour of restored schoolhouses in Maryland and Virginia, and a visit to both the Boyds Negro School and Kingsley schoolhouse in Little Bennett Park will assess “separate but equal” education during the days of segregated schooling.

In addition, author Stephanie Deutsch will give a keynote address on Rosenwald schools. Montgomery County once had 17 Rosenwald schools, which were built in the early 1900s for African American students throughout the segregated South with partial funding from Sears president Julius Rosenwald. A special discounted registration fee is available to Maryland residents. Conference details are at: https://www.countryschoolassociation.org/2019-csaa-maryland.html.
The nonprofit Country School Association of America is made up of people all across the nation dedicated to preservation and restoration of old schoolhouses. Its annual conference is held in a different part of the country each year; this June marks the first time it will convene in Maryland.
